Activities to highlight the harmful effects of domestic violence will continue this weekend when Barbadians are treated to a dramatic portrayal of biblical women and their counterparts in today’s world, as they deal with issues such as abuse and rejection.

Women of Worth will present the production this Saturday, December 5, at the Western Light Church of the Nazarene, Oxnards, St. James, starting at 7:00 p.m. Song, dance, mime, poetry and drama will be used to show how, through faith in God, women can find their way ???out of the ashes’ of their past.

Persons who are interested in attending should purchase tickets on the night of the presentation from the church.

Meanwhile, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, the Business and Professional Women’s Club and VOICES Barbados Writers’ Collective will stage an event at St. Leonard’s Anglican Church to raise the level of consciousness about domestic violence.

Poetry and short stories will be read by Maureen Singh, Kimberly McDonald, Maggie Philip, Louisa Nurse and Alex Bowen.

In addition, a ???clothes line’, with t-shirts of various colours depicting the types of violent acts being committed, will be hung to allow survivors of domestic violence, their families and friends an opportunity to speak about its impact on their lives.??????????

These events are being staged by the Bureau of Gender Affairs and its partners to commemorate November 25 as International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence. This year’s theme is "Commit. Act. Demand: We Can End Violence Against Women".
