The Division of Culture today held a presentation ceremony at its headquarters at Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael, for winners of the online competition for Africa Day, held on May 25.

Africa Day, formerly known as African Liberation Day, is celebrated world-wide and falls within the Season of Emancipation in Barbados. This year the staff of the Division of Culture used fashion as a way to bring awareness to Barbados’ African heritage.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with responsibility for Culture, John King, presented the awards to the winners of this online competition.

It attracted 28 entries and received tremendous support on social media from Barbadians on island and abroad.

The male category was won by Patrick Estwick, with Neville Legall and Bismark Opoku winning second and third place, respectively.

The winner in the female category was Andrea Estwick, followed by Tracey Millington in second place, and Leisha Leach in third.

There was also a group award, which was won by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. Sewempressive and Lenora and Lilia Arthur received second and third place prizes, respectively, in this category.
