African Awareness programmes at schools across the island will continue next week.

On Tuesday, February 25, the Government Hill Nursery School will have a visit from Chef Crieg Greenidge, who will prepare an African dish for the children at 10:30 a.m.

The following day, Wednesday, February 26, the tiny tots will be shown a number of African games, while on Thursday, February 27, the National Library Service will visit the school and relate stories of Africa.

The programme, which bears the theme: Africa We Come From, will culminate on Friday, February 28. Children and their teachers will wear African attire and showcase African art, craft, food, drama, poetry, dance and songs.

Meanwhile, students at the Ann Hill School will, on February 27, join with the neighbouring Irving Wilson School to celebrate their heritage under the theme: Celebrating Our Children, Shades of Black. The activities will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The two schools will focus attention on Nigeria and also pay tribute to Nelson Mandela. Children will get the opportunity to wear African garb and participate in activities such as the Natural Hair Competition, Best African Outfit for both males and females and the tasting of African dishes.

The following day, Friday, February 28, both the Ann Hill and Irving Wilson Schools will receive a visit from The Countess of Wessex, Princess Sophie, from 9:30 a.m.
