Patrons at this year’s Agrofest, which will run from February 25-27, will have an opportunity to learn more about some of the basics of agriculture, gardening and practising healthy lifestyles.

That is because the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries, Industry and Small Business Development will host ???Agro Forum 2011′.?? It will feature staff of the ministry, representatives from the University of the West Indies, the National Commission for Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (CNCD) and the private sector delivering presentations on a variety of topics throughout the weekend.

On Saturday, February 26, the forum will start with a Plant Diagnostic Clinic at 11:00 a.m. and other topics include "Mulching" at noon; "Budding and Grafting" at 1:00 p.m.; "How to Compost" at 2:00 p.m.; "Designing the landscape of your house" at 3:00 p.m.; and a floral arranging demonstration at 4:00 p.m.

On Sunday, February 27, "How to build a small greenhouse" will be the first presentation, starting at 11:00 a.m. followed by "Planting in a greenhouse" at noon; "What are CNCDs and their risk factors" at 1:00 p.m.; "How to build a small hydroponics unit" at 2:00 p.m.; "Setting up a Fertigation System" at 3:00 p.m.; "Potting Orchids" at 4:00 p.m.; and "Eating to reduce the risk factors for CNCDs" at 5:00 p.m.

Agrofest, which will have some 250 exhibits on display in Queen’s Park, is being held under the theme Achieving Healthy Lifestyles through Agriculture.??
