It’s Agro-fest time again! And, exhibitors and vendors are being invited to register now for booth spaces for the 2008 showcase which is slated to  take place from March 7 – 9, at Queens Park under the theme: ‘Protecting the Future’.

Members of the public may also register for inaugural kitchen garden, craft  and vegetable basket competitions, which will  be  among a range of added attractions  at the annual agricultural extravaganza.

Registration for booth spaces closes on Friday, February 1, at   4.00 p.m. Interested persons may contact the Agro-fest Secretariat, c/o the Barbados Agricultural Society, “The Grotto”, Beckles Road, St. Michael, Mondays to Fridays, between 8.30 am and 4.00 pm. Agro-fest, which is the island’s premier agricultural event, is expected to attract over 40,000 local and international patrons. It will showcase the best in agricultural products, an interactive workshop, and educational items, There will also be cooking demonstrations, art and craft displays, local entertainment and a plantation breakfast.

Among added attractions will be a mini farm exhibit, a Bajan bar-be-que and after-work lime, and a series of  family fun events.

Reintroduced in 2005 after an absence of over 30 years, Agro-fest provides an opportunity for commodity groups, large establishments, small companies and individual entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services.  It has two primary objectives:  to demonstrate the importance of agriculture in ensuring food security; as well as technological innovation and youth participation to ensuring the survival of the sector.

The exhibition will be open to school children only on Friday, March 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and to the general public from  4:00 to  9:00 p.m.  On Saturday and Sunday, March 8 and 9, the opening hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
