With this year’s National Agriculture Exhibition just ???around the corner’, the main organiser, the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS), will be hosting a workshop for food vendors that will focus on the link between food, cooking and healthy lifestyles.

Participating vendors will be sensitised to the benefits of using locally grown produce, particularly in the control, prevention and reduction of chronic non-communicable diseases. They will also explore new, creative and healthy methods of preparing meals.

The half-day workshop will take place this Wednesday, January 18, at the Dining Club, Building No. 11, Newton Industrial Estate, Newton, Christ Church, starting at 10:00 a.m.

There will be presentations by representatives of the National Commission for Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases and the Ministry of Health. In addition, a cooking demonstration will be put on by renowned local chef, Peter Edey.

Agrofest 2012 will run from Friday, February 24, until Sunday, February 26, at Queen’s Park under the theme "Renewable Energy: Powering Agriculture to Success."

Some 60 vendors are expected to take part in the half-day workshop.
