Minister of Environment and Drainage, Dr. Denis Lowe

All is set for tomorrow’s 4R’s Fair which comes off at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael.

Waste Management Co-ordinator with the Solid Waste Project Unit, Thora Lorde, said "all systems are in place," and the 4R’s Fair (which stands for Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover) was on target for its 10:00 a.m. start when Minister of Environment and Drainage, Dr. Denis Lowe will officially open the event.

This year’s fair will feature a number of events which will include the launch of the We Recycling jingle, written by Public Relations Officer at the Sanitation Service Authority, Carl Padmore, and performed by students of the choir and drama group of the Ellerton Primary School.

Mr. Padmore explained the jingle, which will be launched during the opening ceremony, spoke about the importance of recycling and the dangers of illegal dumping.

In addition to visiting the 24 recycling booths on display, those who attend tomorrow’s fair will also have the chance to witness a composting presentation at 4:00 p.m. by David Bynoe from the Ministry of Agriculture, and a public lecture at 5:30 p.m. hosted by officials from the Bellairs Research Institute on Recycling Invention.

This year’s fair will include the life sized interactive Waste Buster game, and see the launch of the Solid Waste Project Unit’s new Children’s Activity.

Another special feature this year is that the fair will run for three-and-a-half hours longer than previous years, ending at 8:00 p.m.

"More people are showing interest and want to be a part of the event, but we will play any future expansions by ear," Ms. Lorde said.
