Officials from the Ministry of Elder Affairs and People Empowerment have confirmed that everything is in place for the smooth running of this Sunday’s National Independence Service of Thanksgiving at the Wildey Gymnasium.

The service, which is usually held on the Sunday before Independence, will now take place one week earlier on Sunday, November 18. It begins at 3:00 p.m. and will be followed by the NIFCA Gala at 6:00 p.m.

Organizers have assured that, despite what appears to be “a tight timeline”, the Royal Barbados Police Force will be out in full force to ensure that both events come off as smoothly as possible.

Persons attending the service are asked to be seated by 2:30 p.m. for a prompt 3:00 p.m. start. No access will be granted to the Gymnasium following the service, which is expected to end at 4:20 p.m. Doors are expected to reopen at 5:00 p.m. for those who will be attending the NIFCA Gala.

Those who will be using public transportation are reminded that they should utilise the Edey Village or St. Patrick’s bus from the Fairchild Street terminal in order to reach the Gymnasium. Traffic at the Gymnasium will flow in an anti-clockwise direction and all persons are asked to comply with the traffic wardens who will be on hand.
