Former Governor General, the late Sir Clifford Husbands. (FP)

Plans are progressing well for the State Funeral for this island’s longest serving Governor General, Sir Clifford Husbands, which will be held this Friday, November 3.

Following a dress rehearsal today at St. Lucy’s Parish Church, Minister with responsibility for coordinating the State Funeral, Senator Dr. Byer Suckoo, told the media that the “dry run” was necessary to ensure that logistics and sound systems were in place and that all involved were aware of their various positions inside and outside of the church.

“We had the ushers, the funeral director and his team, the Barbados Defence Force who will be accompanying the casket both in and out of the church, the police because the band will be playing on the day and a team from the Ministry of Public Works who are working on the decking outside.”

She continued:  “We also had representatives from the church and everybody is here just to make sure that all the questions are answered and everybody knows where they are to be on the day and I think we have now achieved that.”

Dr. Byer Suckoo thanked all the agencies involved for working assiduously to ensure that the service is executed successfully.

Also present at the dress rehearsal were representatives of the Barbados Government Information Service, Cabinet Office and other government departments.

Sir Clifford passed away on October 11 at the age of 91.
