The Government and the Central Bank of Barbados, will be hosting a joint two-day alternative energy conference to educate stakeholders and the public, about the benefits of utilising alternative energy sources.

The symposium, under the theme: Alternative Energy: Pathway to a Sustainable Future in Barbados, will be held on Monday September 6 and Tuesday, September 7, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, from 9:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m.

During the day’s proceedings, the proponents and manufacturers of alternative energy solutions, will be exposed to locally-developed alternative energy initiatives and how they can be used to rid the island of fossil fuels.

Participants will hear presentations from General Manager of Solar Dynamics, James Husbands; and General Manager of Clarke’s Energy, Dr. Roland Clarke. They will speak about Solar Energy, while Operations Manager at Harrison’s Cave, Scofield Clarke, and Commercial Director of BICO Limited, Colin Corbin, will discuss Photo Voltaics.

Project Manager of the Solid Waste Project Unit, Ricardo Marshall; and Project Manager, Barbados Cane Industry Corporation, Charles Briggs, will examine the topic: Bio Fuels.

This will be followed by a discussion on Energy Efficiency by Project Manager at the Caribbean Hotel Efficiency Action, Loretto Duffy-Mayers, Senior Manager at the Barbados Light and Power Company Limited (BL&P), Hallam Edwards; and Managing Director of Energy Dynamics Limited, Andrea Escalante.

Other speakers slated to address the gathering are the BL&P’s Senior Planning Engineer, Roger Blackman.?? He will give a talk on Wind Farms; while Wind Turbine Developer, Jason Clarke and Technical Consultant/Installer, Ralf Dungan, will explore the topic: Small Wind.
