Barbados has taken steps to enhance its relationship with Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) with the appointment of Ambassador Robert Morris as Barbados??? High Commissioner to the twin-island republic.
Ambassador Morris presented his Letters of Introduction to the President of Trinidad and Tobago, Anthony Carmona, S.C. during a ceremony in his office last month.
The High Commissioner also met with T&T???s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.During his visit, the Ambassador congratulated Trinidad & Tobago on celebrating 52 years as an independent nation on August 31.
He also met with government officials with a view to ???finalising a fishing protocol which aims to clearly outline the common procedures relating to the arrest of crew or detention of fishing vessels???.
Meanwhile, President Carmona expressed Trinidad???s interest in forging closer bilateral ties with Barbados in areas such as renewable energy, transport and tourism.
In addition to stimulating commerce and trade, forging a closer collaboration between the two countries would include the exchange of technical information and expertise, training courses and cultural exchanges.
Barbados established diplomatic ties with Trinidad on November 30, 1966, and since then, the two countries have enjoyed cordial relations. The appointment of Ambassador Morris as High Commissioner will further strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity which the two countries currently enjoy.
