The signing of a double taxation agreement (DTA) between Barbados and Spain should lay the foundation for much deeper relations between the two countries.
And, yesterday, during a courtesy call at Government Headquarters, Acting Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and the new Ambassador of Spain, Joaquin de Aristegui, both made a commitment to bringing the DTA to fruition, hopefully by year-end.
Ambassador Aristegui told the acting Prime Minister he hoped that Barbados and Spain could find new projects on which they could collaborate, pointing to tourism, agriculture and renewable energy as viable options to be explored.
Mr. Stuart agreed, and expressed government’s commitment to further strengthening the ties between the two nations which existed since 1980.
He also commended the envoy for his country’s relationship not only with Barbados, but with the region, noting that Spain had maintained an active interest in CARICOM and CARIFORUM. gapplewhaite@barbados.gov.bb
