The Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat (CICS) will continue its preparations for independence activities later this year, with a retreat for its Parish Ambassadors over the weekend.

The retreat is scheduled to take place from Friday, August 7, to Sunday, August 9, at the George Lamming Primary School, Welches, St. Michael.

On Saturday, the Ambassadors will be given tips on how to be effective public speakers during an interactive session. They will also be instructed in other areas, such as etiquette, scouting and cadet life skills.?? The highlight of the day’s activities, will be a beautification of the grounds of the St. Michael Geriatric Hospital on Beckles Road, St. Michael, from 6:30 to 11:00 a.m.

The following day, Sunday, August 9,?? Minister of Community Development and Culture, Steve Blackett, the Parish Ambassadors and officials from the CICS will attend a Church Service at the Church of the Nazarene, Collymore Rock, St. Michael, at 8:30 a.m.

The activities will climax with a closing ceremony followed by a talent and sing-along session.
