The Emergency Ambulance Service’s (EAS) ambulance fleet is currently challenged due to vehicular failures.
In a statement yesterday, Communications Specialist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Dale Forde, said the ambulances would be incrementally returned to service – some within 48 hours and others over a one to two-week period.?? The procurement of four additional ambulances is currently being processed, Ms. Forde disclosed.
In the interim, she said arrangements had been put in place to outsource to private providers to facilitate 24-hour island-wide coverage and to utilise The Barbados Defence Force ambulance service.
The public has been asked to access the EAS for genuine emergencies only, and to make alternative arrangements where possible for transportation to the hospital.
