This island’s tourism sector will take centre stage later this month, when 21 secondary school students present their views during the Ministry of Tourism’s Annual Speech Competition.
The participants will discuss themes related to sports tourism and the use of social media in marketing the country.
Tourism Development Officer, Marsha Armstrong, said the Ministry was "elated by the response and interest from secondary schools for this year’s competition and we are eagerly anticipating the announcement of the top student, who will be awarded the title of Junior Minister of Tourism 2013". She added that Ministry representatives and industry stakeholders were looking forward to hearing from Barbados’ young leaders, who would bring a fresh outlook on the industry.
The Speech Competition, which will see students ages 14 to 17 debate issues relevant to the industry, is part of The Tourism Education, Awareness and Me (TEAM) Programme. The programme seeks to sensitise young people about tourism’s crucial role in national development.
