The Barbados Horticultural Society (BHS) has won gold again at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

This is the 18th gold in 29 consecutive appearances at the show for the BHS, whose 20×20 display entitled:This Island Barbados, comprised tropical flowers and foliage assembled in the map of Barbados.

The display also included a coral stone formation, as well as fish pots, hawker trays and rum barrels.

High Commissioner for Barbados to the United Kingdom, Guy Hewitt, was on hand to congratulate the Barbados Horticultural Society’s team, which included President, Orson Daisley; and First Vice President, Jennifer Weetch, on behalf of Team Barbados UK.

He also thanked Manager of C.O. Williams Flowers, Trevor Hunte; and the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc.’s UK Director, Cheryl Carter, for their support in making the exhibit successful.

Mr. Hewitt also underscored the fact that the BHS exhibit at Chelsea was an important “soft-sell for Barbados as it depicted the colour, diversity and excellence of this country on a global stage”.

Over the years, the BHS won 10 Silver-Gilt and one Silver at the Chelsea Flower Show. The exhibition continues for the rest of this week and over 150,000 visitors are expected to view the Barbados exhibit.

The BHS, located at Balls, Christ Church, is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting gardening and horticulture in Barbados. Their patron is Governor General of Barbados, Sir Elliott Belgrave.
