Stakeholders will have another opportunity next week to give their input at a consultation aimed at reforming and modernising Barbados’ Town and Country Planning Act.
The stakeholders’ consultation, which will be held on Wednesday, July 25, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, will bring together those who interact with the planning process, including developers, investors and non-governmental organisations.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley will address the gathering and then presentations will be made on Options for Legislative Change; How Are We Delivering and Improving Town Planning at Present? and Problems and Remedies, among others.
Members of the public are encouraged to follow the discussions, which will be livestreamed from 2:00 p.m. on the Government Information Service’s Facebook Page. Comments and suggestions submitted via Facebook will help to inform discussions during the plenary session of the consultation.
A similar session was held earlier this week for public and private planners, architects and others who interact with the planning process. The purpose of these exercises is to enact new town planning legislation which is efficient, transparent and consistent; and which supports high quality, sustainable development for current and future generations.
Interested persons who want to have their views considered in the amended legislation may submit their ideas and comments to the email address townplanningreform@barbados.gov.bb, or send written submissions to Town Planning Consultations, Prime Minister’s Office, Government Headquarters, Bay Street, St. Michael. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, September 30, 2018.
