Students have the opportunity to participate and win prizes in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment’s anti-violence essay competition.

The competition is part of the Ministry’s ‘End De Violence Now’ campaign, which was launched in June of this year.

To enter, they must be 13 to 15 years old, as at October 8, 2021. The essay must be between 350 and 400 words, and written on the topic The Impact of Media Violence on Youth.

All entries must include a face page with the participant’s full name, birth date, and contact details, inclusive of name and telephone numbers for a parent/guardian. For an opportunity to win a prize for their school, students must include the name of the school on the face page of the entry.

Essays must be submitted via email to YES@barbados.gov.bb. Students may begin submitting their entries on Monday, September 20, and the deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 8. Final judging will take place during the period October 11 to 22.

Prizes include a lap top and case, tablets and vouchers, and will be awarded to the top ten participants and the top three schools.

All entries become the property of the National Anti-Violence Essay Committee, and may be used in the Ministry’s publications or promotional activities.

The Ministry also reserves the right to publish the photographic image of any of the winners in the media or on its social media platforms.
