Barbadians between the ages of 18 and 40, who have been accepted to an internationally-accredited university at the undergraduate or postgraduate level, are invited to apply for the National Development Scholarships 2013.

The scholarships, which are being offered by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, will be awarded in a number of areas. In Agriculture persons should be studying Sustainable Agriculture; Water Resources Management; Environmental Change and Food Security; Animal Nutrition; Morphologic Veterinary Pathology; and Food Technology.

Persons pursuing studies in Allied Health should focus on Nursing; Pharmacy; Occupational Safety and Health; Disability Studies; Venereology; Orthoptics; Podiatry; Occupational Therapy; Nutrition and Dietetics; Community Psychology; Clinical Social Work (Ageism,’, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, NULL, NULL, 0); Forensic Psychology; Drug and Alcohol Studies; Health Economics; and Radiography.

Students interested in a scholarship in Culture Studies should have considered Conservation; Curational Studies; Cinema and Media Studies; Design for Theatre and Entertainment Media; and Animation. Meanwhile, scholarships in Education will be offered in Interpreter Training for the Hearing Impaired; Curriculum Development for Competence Based on Education and Training; Curriculum Design and Instruction; Clinical / Behavioural Psychology; and Education and Development.

For candidates interested in the field of?? Environmental Studies, consideration will be given to training in Environmental Pollution Control, while Aviation Law should be the focus of students applying for scholarships in Legal Studies.

Under Management Studies, individuals may be selected from among those who express interest in Facilities and Environment Management; Contract Administration; Procurement Management; Maritime and Maritime Safety Administration; Economic Crime Management; Knowledge Management; Entrepreneurship – New Ventures Creation; and Forensic Accounting.

The National Development Scholarship may also be awarded to a student who is interested in Medicine in the areas of Clinical Chemistry and Clinical Microbiology, and persons who are keen in Physical Development in the areas of Fire Safety Engineering; Structural Engineering; Electrical Engineering (Solar Technology,’, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, NULL, NULL, 0); Geotechnical Engineering; Automotive / Mechanical Engineering; Marine Engineering; and Renewable Energy.

In the area of Science and Technology, students’ choice of study must be in the field of Innovation, Creativity, and Leadership; Quality Assurance; Bio-Technology; Computer Security or Computer Forensics. In Tourism, Heritage and Cultural Tourism may be considered.

Programmes which are offered at the University of the West Indies will not be considered. Successful applicants will be required to enter into a bond to return to, and work in Barbados, on completion of the course.
