The Ministry of Health and Wellness’ Immunisation Unit has advised that due to the overwhelming response from frontline workers for the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, the start of the next phase of the National Vaccination Programme has been delayed until next week.

Co-coordinator of the programme, Major David Clarke, explained that a few hundred frontline workers, particularly in the hotel sector, who did not come forward during the first phase of the campaign, have recently indicated an interest in getting the vaccine.

He stated that the Immunisation Unit would focus on administering first doses to these workers this week, a process that is expected be completed by early next week.

Once this category of workers is vaccinated, the appointment website will open to the general public “by mid-week” for bookings for first doses.

Additionally, he said the Masonic Centre, located in Salters, St. George, will only operate today, Wednesday, June 2.  It will reopen next week on its usual operating days – Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
