In celebration of Arbor Day 2017, the National Conservation Commission (NCC) will be hosting its annual Environmental/Arbor Day Expo & Farmer’s Market from Friday, September 22 to Saturday, September 23.

The official Arbor Day and tree planting ceremony, as well as the opening of the Expo, will take place at the NCC grounds, Codrington, St. Michael on Friday, September 22.

Students from the wider school community will also visit the Expo on this day and tour the facility from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Items on display will include plants and food, while snacks & drinks will be on sale, and parents are being asked to support the exhibitors by allowing their children/wards to purchase items.

The following day, Saturday, September 23, the Expo which will be open to the general public from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and will include a farmer’s market, play park, various workshops and a fashion show.

The expo, which seeks to promote the importance of trees and their impact on the environment, will showcase various products and services consumed and utilized on a daily basis, which are derived from trees.

The event will also feature a number of workshops and demonstrations focusing on topics such as plant care, recycling, composting and alternative energy solutions.

During the course of the Expo, there will be up to 20% discounts on selected plants, while other items such as play equipment, park furniture (seating), paving stones and garden accessories such as plant pots, fertilisers etc., will be on sale at the Garden Centre.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of National Arbor Day in Barbados, which is celebrated annually on September 22.
