Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean, and Argentina???s Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Eduardo Zuain, have identified several areas of cooperation between the two countries.
The two officials discussed the possible areas of collaboration and how they could be achieved during a courtesy call at Parliament recently.
Ambassador Zuain pointed to the reopening of his country???s embassy in Barbados after being closed for more than two decades as an important step to improving cooperation between the two countries.
???We are very happy to re-open the Embassy because the Caribbean area is very important for Argentina. We consider our foreign policy relationship in Barbados as solid not only through speeches but by our actions,??? he added.
Meanwhile, Senator McClean thanked the Ambassador for his country???s interest in the region and highlighted the importance of member states working together.
???We have a number of common interests and while we are small in comparison to Argentina, we see that there are many areas of cooperation [that we can pursue]. I want to express the thanks of the government for what we started to do already???I think we have identified a number of areas of cooperation which for us, are very important,??? she indicated.
The Minister continued: ???Access to Latin America in terms of airlift???is very important for us and I look forward to seeing those things through.???
The two officials also discussed the negotiation of a Double Taxation Agreement, the conclusion of an Air Services Agreement, and the creation of innovative business opportunities for the youth. Barbados and Argentina established diplomatic ties on August 16, 1968.
