Argentina is pleased about re-opening its embassy here in Barbados.

This was a key talking point yesterday when Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Argentina to Barbados, Diego Limeres, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean at her Culloden Road office.

Following the exchange of courtesies, Ambassador Limeres said that he was pleased to be here for the re-opening of the Embassy in Barbados and to be present during Barbados??? Independence celebrations.

He observed that Barbados and Argentina had enjoyed good relations and expressed the hope that they would continue to forge an even stronger bond.

The Ambassador pointed out that a number of bilateral matters had to be addressed, and emphasised that having a resident ambassador would provide the opportunity to ???push things forward???.

Minister McClean, in turn, stated that Barbados hoped to conclude an Air Services Agreement with Argentina, as there was interest in accessing its tourism market. She further pointed out that for many years local businesses had an interest in Argentina.

The two officials also discussed the relationship which Argentina had with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), as a result of working through the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC).
