Barbadians will soon get an opportunity to view a group exhibition being staged to celebrate the official inscription of Barbados’ first UNESCO World Heritage Property.

Of Bridgetown and its Garrison is the title of the Barbados Arts Council’s exhibition which will be held from Sunday, June 10 to Friday, July 6, at the Pelican Art Gallery, 20 Pelican Craft Centre, Harbour Road, St. Michael. The work may be viewed by members of the public from Monday to Friday, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The participating Barbados Arts Council artists are: Michael Alkins, Allan Ashby, Larry Belgrave, Keith Blackett, Alison Bohne, Rasheed Boodhoo, Hubert Brathwaite, Virgil Broodhagen, Patricia Brown, Neville Crawford, Maurice Drakes, Debra Durant, Henry Fraser, Glenroy Jordan, Neville Legall, Ron Lucas, Everick Lynton, Dr. Raymond Maughan, William Nathanial Maughan, Michael Naemsch, Corrie Scott, Ann Rudder, Samuel Sealy, Don Small, Eric Stewart and Wayne Collymore Taylor.

Exhibition catalogues will be on sale at the Pelican Art Gallery. The catalogue will include colour reproductions of the exhibited artwork and essays on the World Heritage Property by President of the Barbados National Trust, Dr. Karl Watson; Senior Cultural Policy Officer in the Division of Culture and Sports, Sheron Johnson; President of the Barbados Arts Council, Neville Legall; and Fulbright Fellow and Curator of the Exhibition, Yasmine Espert.

The exhibition will also be extended beyond the Gallery walls in the form of an art trail. Work highlighting aspects of the World Heritage Property will be exhibited at the Barbados Yacht Club, the Barbados Cruising Club, Italia Coffee House (Bridgetown) and LIME (Bridgetown) from June 10 to July 6. In addition, work will be on display at the Waterfront Caf??, Bridgetown, from July 23 to August 8.

This exhibition is being supported by the Ministry of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth and the Arts and Sports Fund.
