How??the World Reads – the Barbados Experience-??Part 2??will be the subject of discussion when the Barbados Association of Reading (BAR) holds its next meeting tomorrow, Saturday, June??4.

The discussion starts at 6.00 p.m. at Erdiston Teachers’ Training College, the Pine, St. Michael, and will afford parents and guardians the opportunity to see a teacher ‘in action’ and to discuss literacy strategies??used in the classroom. Facilitator for the session will??be Education Officer for Reading in the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development and President of the BAR, Christina Morris.

Meanwhile, BAR will be promoting its literacy message at Sheraton Mall on Saturday, June 18. The emphasis of this campaign will be to highlight the role of fathers in the development of children’s literacy.

A number of books and other reading materials will be on display at the several booths from 2.00 to 6.00 p.m.?? Teachers from primary and secondary schools, in collaboration with members of the Kiwanis of Barbados, will facilitate reading for children in the Sargeants Village and Vauxhall areas. This will take place at the Olympus Theatres (VIP) of the Sheraton Mall, from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Children will also be treated to stories from noted author, Jason Cole and animated shows from puppeteers.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit the booths.
