Providers of tertiary education are being targeted for an upcoming workshop to be hosted by the Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC) on the topic: Establishing Quality Indicators for Institutional and Programme Accreditation.

The seminar, which comes off at the Hotel PomMarine, Hastings, Christ Church on Thursday, March 25, is aimed at developing and enhancing the group’s internal quality management systems, for the purpose of accreditation by the BAC.

It runs from 9:00 a.m. until 4.30 p.m. and will be facilitated by the Executive Director of the BAC, Valda Alleyne.

By the end of the sessions it is anticipated that participants will be able to agree on a collective definition of the concepts "Quality" and "Quality Indicator"; evaluate their own institution’s quality indicators within the context of BAC’s Accreditation Standards; identify strengths, challenges and areas for improvement; identify strategies for successful implementation and produce a plan of action for assessing the progress of implementation.

The BAC is located at 123 A Plaza Centrale, Roebuck Street, Bridgetown. It registers and accredits institutions and programmes of study at the post-secondary or tertiary levels. When a tertiary educational provider seeks accreditation with the Council, this signals commitment to quality and accountability to students, society and the educational environment.?? The benefits of accreditation include global recognition of the

quality of the education offered by the provider, since formal acknowledgement by the BAC will be accepted internationally, as well as the potential for increased revenue due to enhanced marketability.

Tertiary providers interested in the workshop, are encouraged to register early with the BAC. The deadline for registration is this Friday, March 12. For further information, the BAC should be contacted at 436-7636 or via email at info@bac.gov.bb.??
