A first step towards having institutions accredited will be taken next month when the Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC) hosts a workshop for post-secondary/tertiary educational providers that will seek accreditation, in the future, from the BAC.

Preparing for Accreditation is the title of the two-day seminar which will be held from Tuesday, November 8 to Wednesday, November 9, at the Courtyard by Marriott, Hastings, Christ Church.

Chairman of the Council, Yvonne Walkes will deliver the opening remarks at the start of the workshop on Tuesday, November 8, at 9:00 a.m.??

The training aims to assist educational providers as they strive towards self-evaluation and on-site evaluation. It will provide an opportunity for participants to gain a better understanding of the Council’s accreditation standards and procedures and to be oriented towards the philosophy that underpins accreditation. Participants will also be given the skills and expertise to undertake the accreditation process effectively as well as the opportunity to network and share experiences with other educational providers that will be pursuing accreditation.

The deadline for registering with the BAC is Monday, October 24.

Accreditation is important as it seeks to assure quality education and creates the impetus for relevancy and currency of faculty, programmes, and courses to best serve students. The pursuit of accreditation enhances the ability to serve students by assuring a focus on quality performance.

An educational provider who seeks accreditation with the Council signals its commitment to quality, and accountability to students, society and the educational environment. Educational providers that achieve accredited status will enjoy many benefits including validation/acceptance of diplomas, certificates and degrees by other accredited schools, universities and the business sector.

Interested persons may register for the workshop by contacting the BAC at (246) 436-9094 or via email at info@bac.gov.bb. They can also visit the Secretariat at #123 A&B, "Plaza Centrale", Roebuck Street, St. Michael. Educational institutions can also log on to the BAC’s website http://www.bac.gov.bb/ and download the application form.
