A Barbadian cultural cuisine exhibition will be on show in June for Heritage Month, at the Main Library at Independence Square, Bridgetown.

Being staged under the theme, Eating the Bajan Way ??? Our Food, Our Culture, it will commence on Monday, June 2, and end on Monday, June 30.

It will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, Mondays to Saturdays.

The exhibition will highlight traditional foods that are a part of the Barbadian lifestyle, including cassava, peas, pawpaw, yams and maize that were introduced by the Amerindians.??Many of these staple crops or ground provisions have remained a vital part of the island???s culinary landscape.

In addition, the exhibition will explore the culinary heritage of the enslaved, who introduced crops such as okras and eddoes to sugar plantations.??The impact of imported foods, primarily salt fish and salt beef, will be also examined.??Admission to the exhibition is free.
