Come Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 7:30 p.m., 12 finalists will compete at the Wildey Gymnasium to be the winner of the inaugural ‘Baje To The World’ competition.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Dwight Sutherland, made this announcement today, during a press briefing held in the Ministry’s conference room, at Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael.

While speaking to the contestants, Mr. Sutherland stated that they had an innate ability that was uniquely theirs.

“All of us have it, most people carry the ability, but it’s really how you use it that gives it that uniqueness, and your talents are like diamonds, and the Government’s aim, through the competition, is to help find those diamonds in local communities and assist them in shining bigger and brighter,” the Minister explained.

At the briefing, contestants randomly drew for their position of performance, and the first person to perform will be Anna Greenidge.

The 11 remaining contestants are: Dwayne Jones, Regina Ruck, Dario Piggott, Rebekah Carter, Trinity Clarke, Destinee Hunte, Justin Taylor, Shekara Straker, Cindy Springer, Chad Bowen, and Casheda Dottin.

Producer of the finals, Dwayne Grazette, highlighted that the contestants would not be singing along to tracks as was done during the preliminaries and semi-finals.

He said there will be a 14-piece member band directed by musical director Jazz Gittens, who noted that the contestants have been practising every day since they were informed of the date for the finals.

The winner of the competition will walk away with a cash prize of $10,000, in addition to a recording and marketing contract.  Second and third place winners will receive $5,000 and $2,500 respectively, and all contestants will receive a participation award.

Admission to the finals is free, and an announcement will be made later this week about the box offices where tickets may be collected.
