The temporary suspension on the importation and licensing of remotely piloted aircraft systems, also known as unmanned aircraft systems or drones, has been extended for an additional 12 months, effective April 1.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, the Cabinet of Barbados also approved a temporary exemption on a case by case basis for drones, which are imported and exported immediately after usage.

This suspension has been in place since March 1, 2016.

The ministry is actively working on new legislative framework to regulate the usage of drones, and to integrate them into Barbados’ national airspace system.
