Minister of Industry, Small Business and Rural Development, Denis Kellman (FP)

There is a great demand for Barbadian seasonings, marinades and sauces overseas.

This was affirmed by Minister of Industry, Small Business and Rural Development, Denis Kellman, as he addressed the opening of Hardware Hub, at Lower Estate, St. George, recently.

The Minister stated that the condiments industry has "shown great potential" and the demand came not only from the diaspora, "but also from the mainstream population".

He explained that the request for the products in other countries was as a result of tourists being introduced to them during their visit to Barbados, and stated: "This …is one of the outcomes of the tourism industry and is a clear demonstration of the linkages that can be created in the economy."??????????

Minister Kellman confirmed that Government was "working assiduously" to implement the necessary policies and programmes which would facilitate increased capacity of the products, as well as enhance their promotion.

??"[We propose] bulk procurement of raw materials to assist in creating economies of scale and consistency of product; as well as the construction of state of-the-art facilities to permit compliance with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards and ensure food safety," the Small Business Minister pointed out.
