As Barbadians, we must renew our commitment to pursuing those values and ideals that promote excellence, and be inspired by the desire to succeed, the will to win, and the urge to reach our full potential.

This message was conveyed by Minister of Labour, Social Security and Human Resource Development, Senator Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, as she reflected on the importance of the annual Week of Excellence, which will be observed from Sunday, February 21, to Saturday, February 27.

???The observance of the week is also designed to be a process through which employers and their employees establish measures by which they can improve the quality of relations at the workplace; enhance efficiency levels; and reduce wastage in all economic activities, thereby facilitating productivity,??? she stated.

Inviting Barbadians of all ages to join in the observance of the National Week of Excellence, the Labour Minister urged everyone to focus on productivity, and celebrate and commit to Pride and Industry. ???In every space, at every desk, at every corner, in churches and communities, we must work together??? if we are to maintain the levels of excellence that we have already reached and to aspire to levels of excellence in other areas,??? she emphasised.

Explaining that the Productivity Council had designated 2016 the National Year of Productivity, Dr. Byer Suckoo noted that this would be an opportunity to discuss the development of a National Wellness Policy and various other means to improve productivity.

During the Week of Excellence, a number of presentations and panel discussions will be held for approximately 300 public and private sector partners. The Week of Excellence Programme was initiated in 2003. It emerged in response to the new market liberalisation and globalisation thrust, which increased the need for productivity-focused businesses and effective competitiveness strategies.
