Be patient!" That’s the advice coming from Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs, Adriel Brathwaite, as the Government and essential services continue efforts to return the island to some normalcy, following the passage of Hurricane Tomas.

Speaking during a press briefing at the offices of the Disaster Emergency Management (DEM) at Warrens, St. Michael last evening, Mr. Brathwaite stressed that Government was working assiduously to assist the disadvantaged, however, the restoration of full service would take time and as such, persons would have to be tolerant.

The Home Affairs Minister revealed that teams from the Barbados Water Authority and the Barbados Light and Power had been on the ground working tirelessly for the last 24 hours to restore capacity to several parts of the island.

He added that the Ministry of Public Works and the Barbados Defence Force would be working during the day to clear roads and provide access for drivers.

"We want to encourage our citizens to be understanding. We will not be able to get to everyone immediately, there’s a process.?? I also want to encourage residents to go to the Welfare Department in their particular parish…so that we can assist."

Mr. Brathwaite pointed out that there were challenges in some parishes with regard to the restoration of electricity but he was confident that "within the next couple of days that we should be back up to full capacity."

The Home Affairs Minister also called on Barbadians to always be prepared during the hurricane season.

"If there is nothing else we should learn from the Haiti experience is that water is more important than food, so all Barbadians should ensure during the hurricane season that they have an adequate amount of drinking water," Mr. Brathwaite underscored.??askeete@barbados.gov.bb
