Acting Deputy Director at the National Library Service (NLS), Beverley Archer, is encouraging Barbadians with stories to tell to utilise the various methods available in this modern era to do so.

Speaking during a presentation of the book A Man of Vision with a Mission of Hope by Reverend Aaron “Buddy” Larrier, Ms. Archer told the audience that the NLS was cognisant of the fact that each person had a story to tell.

“The National Library Service also accepts that there are varying ways to tell the story.  With these two factors in mind, persons are encouraged to find a way to tell that story. The choice of medium to tell the story includes the oral tradition, writing, lyrics, drawing, painting, dance and numerous others,” she stated.

The Acting Deputy Director said Rev. Larrier chose the path as a writer and had documented his life experiences for posterity.

Ms. Archer said the book would be added to the NLS’ collection as another piece of “the national history of our people”.

“All Barbadians, citizens of Barbados, other persons are encouraged to contribute to the collection, or reference and heritage material, books on or about Barbados, or those written by Barbadians. Of course, we also encourage e-books or other digital media formats,” Ms. Archer underlined.

She continued: “The headquarters, seven branch libraries, the schools’ mobile unit, and more recently the social media platform, let us preserve and share your history.”

In his remarks, Reverend Larrier said the book launch is one of four to be held during the Season of Emancipation. During the event, there were speeches from Founder of Passionate Words Editing Services, Robert Gibson; Chairman, Pan-African Coalition of Organisations, Wayne Onkphra Wells, and Member of the African Diaspora Development Institute, Philip Springer.
