Barbados and Canada will be exploring ways to foster closer cultural ties. This follows a meeting between Minister of Community Development and Culture, Steve Blackett, and his Canadian counterpart from Alberta, Lindsay Blackett, at Government headquarters recently.

Mr. Blackett expressed an interest in scholarship opportunities for Barbadians in dance, film – particularly in the areas of editing, script writing and production – and theatre stage production.

Both Ministers also addressed the possibility of developing a visual arts exchange programme between the Barbados Museum and Historical Society and several Canadian museums.

Mr. Lindsay Blackett, who was appointed Minister of Culture and Community Spirit in March last year, also took the opportunity to inform his Barbadian colleague of Alberta’s cultural policy and its afterschool programme, which uses cultural activities to cater to students.
