The importance of sharing experiences and providing technical assistance were underscored when Minister of Labour, Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo and Cuba’s Ambassador to Barbados, Lissette P??rez P??rez, met during a courtesy call today at the Warrens Office Complex.

Ms. Perez P??rez said it was critical for her country and the Ministry of Labour to identify how they could go forward together in various areas.

Dr. Byer Suckoo noted that in the past, Cuba worked very closely with Barbados in the area of sports and hinted that she would like to see technical cooperation between both countries.

She explained that technical vocational training was important to her Ministry and officials there were keen to expand the programme so children would have a skill when they left school.

"In the past, most of our schools focused on academics, but within recent times we have been trying to introduce technical skills in more of our schools," Dr. Byer Suckoo stated.

The Minister disclosed that a national vocational qualification would be introduced in schools so young people involved in that type of training could receive certification.
