Barbados and India are seeking to strengthen relations in the area of culture.

This was one of the major issues discussed last Wednesday, when India’s High Commissioner to Barbados, Kanwal Jit Singh Sodhi, paid a visit to Minister of Community Development and Culture, Steve Blackett, at the Warrens Office Complex.

Mr. Sodhi expressed an interest in establishing a formal cultural exchange programme with Barbados. However, in the absence of such an agreement, the High Commissioner said both parties could still examine the possibility of working together.

He suggested that cultural troupes, artistes and scholars in the cultural field from India could visit Barbados as part of an exchange programme.

Minister Blackett said both countries had enjoyed a long and healthy relationship and he was looking forward to cooperating with High Commissioner Sodhi in the area of culture.

The two parties also discussed the possibility of working together to develop the local film industry.
