Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has identified renewable energy and water resource management as two areas of possible cooperation between Barbados and Israel.
Mr. Stuart expressed this view recently when Israel???s Ambassador to Barbados, Mordehai Bivas, paid him a courtesy call at Ilaro Court.
He said this country was embarking on a path-breaking exercise in renewable energy and Israel had the know-how to assist in that area, as well as with water resource management.
???We can solidify our relationship in those two areas and raise it to another level,??? he stressed, reminding the Ambassador that Barbados was interested in concluding a Double Taxation Agreement with Israel.
The Prime Minister noted that one year after Independence, in 1967, Barbados established diplomatic relations with Israel, and that friendship had grown to the point where the countries were now enjoying various levels of cooperation. He stated that Israel had also made scholarships available to young Barbadians.
Ambassador Bivas said Israel had developed new technologies that it was willing to share with the rest of the world. He acknowledged that his country had the expertise in water resource management and would be willing to assist Barbados.
The envoy observed that even though this was his first visit to the island, he sensed that there was a strong understanding of Israel. He agreed with the Prime Minister that there was a solid foundation on which both countries could build.
