Communications are still ongoing between the Governments of Barbados and Jamaica on the issue of the Shanique Myrie case.
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart made this disclosure today as he spoke with members of the media during a break in the business session of the 32nd Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM.
In a much publicised account, the Jamaican national accused authorities at the Grantley Adams International Airport of subjecting her to a cavity search earlier this year.
Giving an update on the matter, Mr. Stuart said the Government of Barbados "recently received a letter from the Government of Jamaica, [through] the Attorney General of Jamaica on the issue". He added that, so far, there were no new developments and, in fact, it was in no way a divisive issue. "Not at all," the Prime Minister affirmed.
During today’s meetings regional leaders also met with the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos Calderon; the Secretary-General of the Organisation of American States, Jose Miguel Insulza; and the Commissioner for Development at the European Commission, Andris Piebalgs.
