Permanent Representative of Barbados to the United Nations,??Joseph Goddard and Permanent Representative of the Republic of San Marino to the United Nations,??Daniele Bodini, exchanging??agreements after??the signing. (MFAFT)??

Barbados and the Republic of San Marino have signed an Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation, and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income.

The signing took place in New York on Friday, December 14, and formalises the Bilateral Agreement which was initialled in July 2012.??

Permanent Representative of Barbados to the United Nations, Ambassador Joseph Goddard and Permanent Representative of the Republic of San Marino to the United Nations, Ambassador Daniele Bodini signed the agreement on behalf of the two countries.

Speaking during the signing, Mr. Goddard indicated that Barbados had succeeded in developing a strong, well-regulated international business and financial services sector and was pleased to add San Marino to its growing treaty network.??

He stated that the Agreement would enhance the investment frameworks of both countries thereby facilitating trade and providing investors with more investment options.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Bodini welcomed the signing noting that he hoped it would promote the strengthening of the relationship between Barbados and San Marino to the mutual benefit of both countries.?? He noted that as small states with economies heavily dependent on tourism and financial services, Barbados and San Marino had much in common.??

Mr. Bodini said that he looked forward to continuing to work together at the United Nations level and in the context of international fora such as the Forum on Small States.
