Singapore???s Ambassador to this country, Kemal Siddique, has extended an invitation for a representative of Barbados to visit his country, to share and learn best practices in a number of areas.
The invitation came during talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean, recently at her Culloden Road office.
The Ambassador explained that there is a Distinguished Visitors Programme (DVP) in Singapore, which provides a platform for international thought leaders to visit Singapore and share global best practices on a variety of issues, including those related to homeland and national security.
Mr. Siddique also expressed an interest in establishing relations in the area of education. He explained that he wanted to build a relationship between the universities in his homeland and the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus. He suggested that virtual classrooms could be used as a way of connecting students to tutors.
Senator McClean agreed that collaboration between universities would have significant benefits for both countries. She pointed out that the UWI Cave Hill Campus was seeking to attract more international students and had already established relationships with a number of countries.
There was also some discussion on issues related to the environment, which included being prepared for natural disasters, as well as on Barbados??? continued efforts to ensure that it is not seen as a tax haven.
