Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley’s address to the nation – January 26, 2021. (PMO)

Barbados’ borders will remain open even though the island will go into a period of lockdown effective midnight, February 3.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley stated this during her address to the nation from Ilaro Court, tonight.

She pointed out: “We can’t shut down completely because we’re an island, and there is no way any of us in this country can predict the combination of permutation of instances, or opportunities, or needs that we will have to deal with. And as a result, we keep the airport and air flights travel open, but we minimise significantly the numbers.”

Ms. Mottley said that borders would remain open to facilitate visitors who need to return home, and those who were still desirous of coming to Barbados.

She stated that she had asked the Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Senator Lisa Cummins, and the Civil Aviation Department to communicate with airlines about a reduction in the number of flights coming into the island.

Ms. Mottley advised upcoming travellers to the island “to respect and adhere to our protocols and other regulations”, while stating “we love you; we welcome you”.
