The Barbados Defence Force (BDF) will commemorate the 39th Anniversary of its establishment with a parade, and sunset and renaming ceremonies this Saturday, August 18.

It is being held under the theme: A United Force – One Vision One Journey, at St Ann’s Fort, Garrison, St Michael.

The BDF’s Headquarters building will be renamed the Leonard Banfield House, after Colonel Leonard Banfield. Colonel Banfield was the first Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force, taking up the post on August 15, 1979. He coined the motto “Symbol of Excellence”, which is still being used by the BDF today.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Chief Justice of Barbados Sir Marston Gibson are expected to attend the evening’s proceedings, during which there will also be a display of drill and other activities.
