Minister of Finance, Christopher Sinckler, has reiterated that Government is beginning to see a turnaround in this island???s economy.

He made the comments today when the Israeli Ambassador to Barbados, Mordehai Bivas, paid him a courtesy call at Parliament Buildings.

Mr. Sinckler said tough measures had to be taken because of the global recession to ensure recovery, stabilisation and growth of the economy.

???We are trying our best to wrestle some of these economic issues to the ground and we have put a structure in place for recovery. But there has been a drag on the local, regional and global economy, and it has caused us to reflect on how we do things in the public and private sectors,??? he explained.

During the wide-ranging discussions, the Finance Minister stated that Barbados cherished its longstanding friendship with Israel. He indicated that they had cooperated in a number of areas, and highlighted the supporting of each other???s candidates at the United Nations as one such example.

He expressed the view that not enough Barbadians were taking up the scholarships from Israel, adding that he had friends who studied there and reported that ???it was excellent???.

Ambassador Bivas also praised the solid friendship both countries share, stating that they had a number of things in common. He promised that Israel would continue to assist Barbados, while looking for new areas of cooperation.
