Barbados and Guyana have engaged in several successful initiatives over the years and are keen to maintain and expand on their collaborative efforts.

That was the consensus when Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Guyana, Carl Greenidge, and Barbados??? Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean, held talks recently at her Culloden Road, St. Michael office.

According to Senator McClean, the Santa Fe agricultural project, which is based in Guyana and in which a Barbadian entrepreneur had invested heavily, was a testament to the close working relationship between the two countries.??She added that it augured well for other collaborative efforts on the same or smaller scale.

The Vice President, who was on an official visit to Barbados to sign the Third Barbados Guyana Joint Commission, updated the Minister on other agricultural projects in Guyana, as well as on various ecotourism initiatives in the Rupununi region. He also suggested a number of other areas in which the two countries could collaborate.

The Third Barbados Guyana Joint Commission included the signing of the Agreed Minutes of the Joint Commission; a Memorandum of Understanding between the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. and the Guyana Tourism Authority; and a Memorandum of Understanding between the Barbados Port Inc. and the Guyana Port Authority.
