The recent establishment of diplomatic relations with the Republics of Estonia and Latvia has moved Barbados closer to having formal relations with all member countries of the European Union. This country now has diplomatic relations with 26 of the 27 European Union (EU) member countries.
Joint Communiqués were initialed in two separate ceremonies during the European Union-Latin American and Caribbean (EU-LAC) Summit held in May in Lima, Peru.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and International Business, Christopher Sinckler, signed on the behalf of Barbados, while his counterpart, Urmas Paet, signed on behalf of the Republic of Estonia; and Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Skuja, signed for his country. Barbados’ Ambassador to the EU, Errol Humphrey, was in attendance at the brief ceremony.
Barbados and these two countries pledged to enhance bilateral relations and explore cooperation in areas of trade and investment and people-to-people contact.
