Barbados and Indonesia have identified a number of areas of cooperation that would redound to the benefit of both countries, when that country???s Ambassador to Bogot??, Colombia, Trie Edi Mulyani, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean.
During the meeting at the Ministry on Culloden Road yesterday, the Ambassador pointed to the similarities between her homeland and Barbados and expressed an interest in a closer working relationship in areas to be identified by Government.
Ambassador Mulyani mentioned education as one area of collaboration and added that short-term scholarships were available for Barbadians in areas such as music, culture and arts for a period of six months for graduate studies for a year and professorial exchanges.
In turn, Minister McClean thanked the Ambassador for the offer and pointed out that the provision of scholarships was a good opportunity for young artists to receive advanced training and exposure to work with other nationalities.
She said the opportunity for students to pursue Master’s degrees was necessary on account of the need for students to understand the nuances of the various regions around the world. Minister McClean also described the professorial exchanges as ???very interesting???.
The two officials also discussed the conclusion of a double taxation agreement, and closer collaboration in tourism, agriculture and renewable energy.
