The Barbados Postal Service (BPS) joins post offices across the globe in celebrating World Post Day, tomorrow, Saturday, October 9, the anniversary of the founding of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 at Berne, Switzerland.

A week of various events will begin with a community project: postal workers will paint the Thelma Vaughan Memorial Home, at Glebe Land, St. George from 6 a.m. tomorrow.

A Garrison Secondary School student made it to the top three in the 39th International Letter Writing Competition for Young People this year???? and will receive his award at a prize-giving ceremony in the conference room of the General Post Office, Cheapside at 4 o’clock in the afternoon.

Post Office staff will worship at Calvary Moravian Church on Roebuck Street at 9 a.m. on Sunday, October 10 and the following day join customers in enjoying the music of the Royal Barbados Police Force Band at a concert in the amphitheatre, at the General Post Office from 10 a.m. to noon.

The BPS is also using the celebrations to reward employees for good service through sports, cultural and other recreational activities. tadams@barbados.gov.bb
