Building Bridges for a Better Tomorrow will be the theme when the Barbados Prison Service launches its week of activities for 2016.

This year’s celebrations will kick off with a church service on Sunday, October 9, at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Ruby, St. Philip, beginning at 8:45 a.m.

This service will be followed by a March Pass during which Minister of Home Affairs, Adriel Brathwaite, will take the salute.

On that same day, the Barbados Prison Service will host a 5K Run and Walk from the Emerald City Supermarket in Six Roads, St. Philip, to HMP Dodds, St. Philip.

The run and walk commences at 4:00 p.m.; however, interested persons are asked to register between the hours of 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. Participants are also asked to wear a yellow T-shirt to show support for the Prison’s Second Chance programme.

Trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third male and female finishers; the oldest and youngest participant; and the largest group.

Activities will continue on Monday, October 10, with a health fair extravaganza at HMP Dodds, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. This will feature a number of activities, including prostate, cholesterol and blood pressure checks; full health checks; healthy food sampling; Zumba; boxercise, and a soca ‘waistline’ workout.

Persons will also have an opportunity to find out more about health and life insurance and about the Care Community Group; and view exhibits from the Barbados Family Planning Association, the Sparman Clinic and the Barbados Cancer Society.

On Saturday, October 15, members of the public are invited to an open day at H.M.P. Glendairy, Station Hill, St. Michael, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. This will feature children’s entertainment, rides and a variety of arts and craft on sale.
