In recognition of the presentation of the first stand of colours on February 23, 1953, the Barbados Regiment will be hosting a week of activities in honour of the 59th Anniversary of this event.

The activities will kick off with a church service on Sunday, February 26, at the St. Matthias Anglican Church, Christ Church, starting at 11:00 a.m.??

The following day, Monday, February 27, officials from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital will be conducting a blood collection drive at the Barbados Defence Force’s St. Ann’s Fort, St. Michael, headquarters from 9:00 a.m to 2:30 p.m.?? Later that day, Historian, Dr. Karl Watson, will deliver a lecture entitled Military History of Barbados in the Lingwood Hall at St. Ann’s Fort, commencing at 7:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, February 28, scores of school children will get to see what career opportunities are available in the Regiment during a career showcase at St. Ann’s Fort, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Cricket will take centre stage on Wednesday, February 29, with a marble cricket demonstration, followed by five over female cricket match at St. Ann’s Fort.?? However, the highlight of the evening will be a cricket match between the officers and other ranks of the Barbados Regiment.?? The activities get under way at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, March 3, the members of the Barbados Regiment will show their public spiritedness during a food collection drive for the Red Cross and HIV/AIDS Food Banks in 12 supermarkets across the island from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. Members of the public are asked to make donations of non-perishable goods.

The activities will climax on Sunday, March 4, with the Barbados Regiment Family Fun Day at the King George V Memorial Park, St. Philip, commencing at 10:00 a.m.
